Cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa) is a tropical vine that can reach up to 30 meters in height. Its name comes from its hook-shaped thorns, which resemble a cat's claws. It is primarily found in the Amazon rainforest and other tropical regions of South and Central America. It belongs to the Rubiaceae family, like the coffee plant and noni. It contains oxindole alkaloids, a total of seven different types found in the root and bark, which are attributed therapeutic properties that have been researched and discussed by specialists from the World Health Organization, highlighting its effects against leukemia, tumors, ulcers, arthritis, and infections.

Some of its properties are:
Antibacterial:
Fights against bacteria.
Anticancer and Antitumoral:
Its antioxidant properties increase immunity, help fight cancerous cells, inhibit abnormal cell proliferation, and prevent the implantation of tumor cells.
Antispasmodic:
This property is attributed to its content of rutin.
Anti-inflammatory:
Due to its content of beta-sitosterol and campesterol, as well as its role in immunomodulation through the suppression of TNF-alpha synthesis, which acts in inflammatory processes.
Antiprostatic:
Thanks to beta-sitosterol and campesterol, which inhibit an enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), with DHT being a pro-inflammatory factor in the prostate.
Detoxifying:
Quinovic acid, rutin, apicatechins, and beta-sitosterol help eliminate harmful substances from the body.
Diuretic:
Its content of oleanolic, chlorogenic, and ursolic acids increases urine production.
Blood-thinning:
The alkaloid rynchophylline reduces blood clotting ability.
Immunostimulant:
Promotes an increase in the body's defenses, thanks to its content of alkaloids like isopteropodine, along with other oxindole alkaloids and chlorogenic acid.
