BENEFITS AND HEALING PROPERTIES OF NONI

NONI has been used therapeutically for over two thousand years. It is also known by different names depending on the region, such as Guanábana Cimarrona, Indian Mulberry, Devil's Fruit, Mulberry, or Morinda Citrifolia.

The Noni is a small evergreen shrub that grows over 10 feet tall. It thrives in a wide variety of soils and tolerates harsh environmental conditions.

Noni has antidepressant and sedative properties, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, detoxifying, antithrombotic, digestive, antidiabetic, anticancer, hypolipidemic, immunostimulant, venotonic, and cardioprotective properties.

Noni has traditionally been used to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, and more recently, to treat cholesterol. But it is undoubtedly most distinguished for its powerful antioxidant properties, capable of protecting cells from free radicals and preventing tissue peroxidation.

It is recommended for diabetes as it contains low levels of sugars that are slowly absorbed, thanks to its high fiber content. It also has antioxidant activity on the heart and blood vessel tissues and helps reduce cholesterol due to its content of a plant component called beta-sitosterol.

In the past, it was used to treat bone fractures, abdominal problems, bruises, wounds, cuts, fever, and toothaches. Today, the use of Noni for these cases has been confirmed due to the discovery of certain sedative and analgesic effects in the fruit extract.

A study conducted by the Research and Development Department of Tahitian Noni International in the US determined that Noni can develop antagonistic effects on the GABA receptor to naturally induce its anxiolytic and sedative effects.

Meanwhile, a study conducted in India observed that Noni may be useful in memory deterioration due to its benefits on cerebral blood flow, acetylcholinesterase activity, and oxidative stress.

Additionally, the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, concluded through clinical trials that Noni has antispasmodic and vasodilatory effects that may help in the fight against hypertension and circulatory problems.

As if that weren't enough, it also benefits the digestive system due to its content of laxative substances that accelerate intestinal muscle activity. In this way, it can help prevent constipation and remedy hemorrhoids.

It has also proven effective in cases of stomach ulcers and gastritis, as well as combating intestinal worms.
